ENERGY EXPERT CALLS FOR TAX RELIEF AS GLOBAL OIL PRICES PUSH UP FUEL COSTS
Energy expert Dr. Eric Effah Donyinah of COPPEC has called for a review of taxes and other charges on petroleum products as global crude oil prices continue to put pressure on fuel prices in Ghana. Speaking on the Ghana Nti Morning Show with host Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Dr. Effah Donyinah discussed the impact of developments in the international oil market on domestic fuel prices. Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi questioned whether the government could take measures, including reviewing applicable taxes and levies, to reduce the burden on consumers whenever international oil prices rise. The discussion also touched on the impact of international conflicts on global oil prices. Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi noted that if tensions affecting oil-producing regions ease, developments in the international market could eventually contribute to a reduction in crude oil prices. The discussion comes amid concerns over rising fuel prices and their potential impact on transportation costs, businesses and household expenses.
