Poultry Farmers Engage Authorities Over Nkokonkitikiti Programme and High Production Costs
The Ghana Poultry Farmers Association has engaged regional and district directors over concerns surrounding the Nkokonkitikiti programme, as poultry operators continue to seek solutions to challenges affecting the sector. Speaking to journalist Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, President of the Ghana Poultry Farmers Association, George Dasah, said the association is engaging relevant stakeholders to address concerns raised by poultry operators. According to him, some operators, including female poultry farmers and cold-store operators, have been affected by the programme. Mr. Dasah said the association is continuing discussions with the relevant authorities to ensure that the concerns of affected poultry operators are properly addressed. Meanwhile, he said poultry farmers are currently able to sell the eggs they produce, although high production costs remain a major challenge for the industry. Responding to questions about the current egg market, Mr. Dasah explained that farmers are selling their produce but continue to grapple with the rising costs associated with poultry production. He disclosed that the association has also engaged the sector minister over some of the challenges confronting poultry farmers. Mr. Dasah said the association will continue discussions with government and other stakeholders in an effort to find practical solutions to the challenges facing poultry operators and improve the sustainability of Ghana’s poultry industry.
