AKIM ODA MP ALEXANDER AKWASI ACQUAH EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT IN PRESIDENT MAHAMA OVER NEW COCOA PRICE
The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has expressed disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama over the government’s decision on the new cocoa producer price. The MP has criticised the reduction in the price paid to cocoa farmers, arguing that farmers who work hard to sustain Ghana’s cocoa industry should not be made to bear the full impact of challenges facing the sector. Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah has also called for the government to demonstrate greater commitment to supporting cocoa farmers. In an earlier parliamentary contribution, he argued that if the government considers the reduction painful, the burden should also be reflected in measures taken by government officials. His comments come after the 2026/2027 cocoa season opened with the producer price set at GH¢2,650 per 64-kilogramme bag. The Akim Oda MP maintains that cocoa farmers deserve policies that protect their livelihoods and sustain the cocoa sector.
