HON. AKWASI ACQUAH: PRESIDENT MAHAMA’S COMMENT ON INSULTS AGAINST HIM AND STATE OFFICIALS IS IRRESPONSIBLE

Hon. Akwasi Acquah, Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, has described President John Dramani Mahama’s comment on insults directed at him and state officials as irresponsible. According to the MP, public officials should be mindful of the feelings of individuals and families when responding to personal attacks. He illustrated his point by asking what would happen if someone insulted a president’s wife and the president responded by saying, “Your skin is like crocodile skin.” He questioned how such a response would affect the feelings of the person involved. Hon. Akwasi Acquah suggested that the President’s remarks may have been made in the context of political discourse, but maintained that comments involving personal insults should be handled with caution.
