24-HOUR ECONOMY MARKET: NANA NHYIRABA KWABENA ASIRIFI CHALLENGES NPP’S PROPERTY DESTRUCTION CLAIMS
Host of the Ghana Nti Morning Show, Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, has challenged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its criticism of the government’s 24-Hour Economy Market initiative.
The NPP has raised concerns that the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Market could lead to the destruction or displacement of some individuals’ properties.
Reacting to the concerns, Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi said he had observed instances where properties of individuals had been affected in connection with the implementation of the 24-Hour Economy Market.
However, he questioned the consistency of the NPP’s criticism, citing instances of property demolitions that occurred during the party’s administration.
According to him, areas along the Nsawam–Amasaman–Pokuase road were among locations where some properties were affected during road and development projects under the previous NPP administration.
Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi also referred to the controversy surrounding the construction of the National Cathedral, arguing that properties associated with the Judicial Service were demolished during the development process.
He therefore urged political parties to be consistent in their criticism of government policies and to avoid turning development-related issues into partisan political disputes.
He said discussions surrounding the 24-Hour Economy Market should focus on its impact on citizens, businesses, jobs and economic development, while ensuring that the rights and properties of affected individuals are properly considered.
The debate over the 24-Hour Economy Market remains part of the wider political discussion on the government’s economic policies and their potential impact on communities and property owners.
