MAHDI JIBRIL DEFENDS MAHAMA’S DEVELOPMENT AGENDA, HAILS ACCRA–KUMASI EXPRESSWAY
The Director of Elections and Information Technology of the National Democratic Congress, Mahdi Jibril, has defended President John Dramani Mahama’s development agenda, citing the Accra–Kumasi Expressway project as an important infrastructure initiative expected to improve connectivity and support economic activity. Speaking to journalist Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi, Mahdi Jibril said the project would strengthen the connection between Accra and Kumasi, Ghana’s two major commercial centres. The planned expressway is expected to provide a faster route between the two cities, with government officials saying it could facilitate the movement of people, goods and services and support economic activities along the corridor. Mahdi Jibril also responded to comments by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin concerning President Mahama’s development record. He defended the government’s approach to national development and argued that infrastructure projects and other government interventions should be assessed based on their implementation and impact. Afenyo-Markin has previously criticised the Mahama administration, arguing that it has not delivered sufficiently on some of its campaign promises.
