MR. SAMUEL MENSAH OBIMPEH ADDRESSES ARABIC AND CHINESE LANGUAGE DEBATE, HIGHLIGHTS PARENTS’ ROLE IN BECE PERFORMANCE
Educationist Mr. Samuel Mensah Obimpeh has addressed concerns surrounding President John Dramani Mahama’s comments on the teaching of Arabic and Chinese languages in Ghanaian schools. Speaking on the Ghana Nti Morning Show, Mr. Obimpeh responded to questions from host Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi regarding the President’s comments and the need for clarity on the issue. Nana Nhyiraba also asked whether the Minister of Education and the Ministry of Education should provide further clarification on the government’s position and what it means for schools and learners. Mr. Obimpeh said he would not place the blame solely on the government, teachers or any particular group, stressing that all stakeholders have important roles to play in improving the country’s education system. The discussion also focused on the 2026 BECE results and the performance of candidates. According to Mr. Obimpeh, parents have a significant role to play in their children’s academic development. He said parents should provide the necessary guidance, supervision and support to help their children perform well academically. He emphasised that improving educational outcomes requires a collective effort involving parents, teachers, schools, government and other stakeholders.
