GHANA’S $10 BILLION: TAKYI ADDO RAISES QUESTIONS OVER KEN OFORI-ATTA’S ECONOMIC RECORD
The Public Relations Officer of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association, Mr. Benjamin Takyi Addo, has raised questions about Ghana’s economic management under former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. Speaking on the issue, Mr. Takyi Addo referred to what he described as Ghana’s $10 billion, calling for greater public discussion about how the funds were raised and the impact they had on the country’s economy. Mr. Ofori-Atta, while serving as Finance Minister, stated in December 2023 that Ghana had raised more than US$10 billion in the Eurobond market and through AfriExim Bank, among other achievements he attributed to his tenure. In another statement in 2021, Mr. Ofori-Atta estimated that Ghana would require about US$10 billion to fix the country’s deteriorating road network. Mr. Takyi Addo said Ghanaians deserve clarity on major financial decisions and their implications for the country's development, businesses and ordinary citizens. He called for transparency and accountability in the management of public finances, particularly when large sums of money are involved.
