FUEL TAX CUTS “IRRELEVANT” – ECONOMIST SLAMS GOVERNMENT OVER 30 PESEWA REDUCTION- SAMPSON ANOMAH
Economist sampson Anomah has dismissed recent fuel tax reductions as economically insignificant, insisting they will have no meaningful impact on transport fares or the cost of living.

Speaking on Ghana Nti Morning Show on ICAD TV with host Nana Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi today, he said the reported 30 pesewa reduction per litre is too small to make any real difference, given that fuel prices have risen from about GH₵11 to GH₵17 per litre.

He argued that only a reduction of about GH₵2 per litre or more would have a noticeable economic effect, adding that anything less amounts to “cosmetic relief.” He further warned that once transport fares and goods prices rise, they rarely come down even when fuel prices reduce slightly.

He also pointed to the continued existence of the dumsor levy, arguing that such charges continue to put pressure on consumers despite claims of tax relief.
